The Big Move:

The spiritual level involves provides our community with a model church, strong in its witness for the kingdom of God. Finally we have been able to move the church to a better location. We began this year with the preparations for the church relocation. Two weeks ago we made the big move to our new location. And God is still overwhelming us. Career Center and Fit for Life Program

At the economic level was the setting up a career centre to bring together novice and experienced entrepreneurs and take them through a process of discipleship and mentoring as we develop them into mature Christian leaders in secular settings where they will be witnesses for God, with the capacity to create jobs within their area of passion or training. With the help of one family, we were able to start preparing for and also pilot this program with two students. This year, our desire is to develop this more as we continue reaching the influencers of our community for Christ. You will be hearing a lot more about the career centre and the Fit for life program this year.

This school holiday, we added two teenagers to our household –Milly and Grace –nice girls whose home situations were pathetically horrible for any teenage girl.
Even more exciting – Aaleyah has started school.

Our Appreciation

All of us involved with Transform African Ministry and Luzira Community Church (now THE CITY CHURCH) do not cease to pray for you as we thank God for you continued generosity. All we have been able to accomplish here has been because of your generosity towards the work that God is doing here.

We continue to ask for your prayers in these areas:

1. Continued Salvation for the people in Luzira and the Surrounding areas.
2. God is bringing us the “Big” people of this area (at least in the last two weeks). Pray that we will have the wisdom to Shepherd them well too.
3. With the relocation also comes new challenges. We are yet to put electricity here, set up the children church, a stage and we have more people standing because we do not have enough chairs. Continue to pray for provision
4. Pray that God will pour his favor upon us with our neighbors, the local leaders, and government officials that we have to deal with.
5. Pray against corruption in our country. We end up wasting a lot of time and resources because of this.

After negotiating, the landlady asked us to pay rent of $1000 every month. The place was bushy by the time we negotiated, and now we have cleared the place and leveled it, anxious to see what God is preparing for us in this season.

Last week we had started setting up the tent. However, we have been stopped by our city authorities. This has been quite frustrating. For the last two weeks they have been tossing us up and down asking for one thing after another as we also refuse to give a bribe. They found us already setting up. Normally with a temporary structure you do not need a permit from them.

Our target was to move the church by the 25^th of this month, November 2012, but most of the things are not yet done becuase of this disturbance. Please pray that these issues will resolved soon so that we can move on. But also our biggest prayer is for more people to come to christ as a result of this move.

Here is the picture of the plan that we have for the place. The white tent would be the church, the brown roofed house the office, and the small white toilet, then the children church would be in the other corner (which is not visible in this picture).

Our prayer is to be able to reach the influencers of our community. So we need to make the place attractive and provide relevant services for both adults and children. We hope that by doing that, these people can come to church, stay and keep growing then go and reach out to our communities. Without Christ changing the heart, it is very hard for some people to help others.

Our family is doing well even though both Kids have had eye effections. Doctors say it is nothing sight threatening and they are still on treatment. Albright is now running up and down on her feet. Aaleyah will be starting school next year. Faith is also working in the care and membership ministry and Alex is doing church work. We continue to pray for continual financial provision especially as rent comes up next month.

It has only been a few weeks since I joined the teaching team at Africa  Renewal Bible college as part-time Lecturer. Yet this has also come with another weight of conviction as I understand that most of my students are already serving God in different churches across the region of East Africa. Hence as I teach and affect their lives, their understanding of scripture and their convictions about christian living, I understand that what I am doing goes beyond just them. God has given me the great privilege and responsibility to influence the Church in East Africa through these men and women.

This has also caused me to reflect on the phenomenon of teaching and learning. For teaching and learning go hand in hand and cannot be divorce from each other. Teaching takes place only when learning happens. The teacher therefore has the responsibility not only to teach but to ensure that when he/she teaches, learning is actually taking place on the part of the students.

It therefore behooves the teacher to go passed delivery of the material content to make sure that the students are indeed receiving and producing the necessary predetermined outcome of each educational experience. While this does not excuse the student’s role as stewards of their learning, it calls for a relationship between the teacher and the student that ensures that when teaching takes place learning also happens.

That is my main goal every time I enter a classroom. I want these servants of God to learn something that will change their lives for the better and also be able to influence other people in Jesus’ name.

The participants who came from the conference on the first day numbered 72 (19 men and 53 women), while on the second day 74 people attended (22 men and 52 women).
The conference was well attended by participants from Luzira Community church and other churches. Married people from other congregations were also invited to the conference and the response was positive. The churches that sent participants for the conference included Gaba Community Church, Bible Gospel Church, Cornerstone Community Church and Kampala Community Church.
The main facilitators freely interacted with and engaged all the participants, citing practical examples from the Bible, as well as their own marriages. They employed simple skits, illustrations, question and answer sessions as an interactive way to put their message across.

The Luzira Community Church Praise/Worship team, the children’s choir and a guest musician led the worship sessions and sang special songs throughout the conference.

Breakfast and lunch were also provided to the participants, since they were spending the whole day at church. Some money was also given to the help with the transportation of the members who were commuting to and from Luzira.
The conference challenged and energized participants to raise families in a Christ like manner, through prayer, love for each other, honesty among other principles shared by the speakers.

The Lord’s presence was made obvious in many ways! First, there had been no venue found until Thursday when Alex spoke to the owner of the building for a second or third time. Previously the group that owned the building had not been in favor of the idea. Then on Thurs., God changed one man’s heart/mind to grant us permission for the Christmas morning service, the Launch and for the Family Conference held Dec. 29-31.

There was no HOT tent to suffer in from the heat, but a cool 2nd story of a partially built third story building. Between Thurs. & Sat. night a stage was erected, one light installed, Christmas decorations hung— all completed by the devoted crew of volunteers at Luzira Community Church.

People from the community, the Luzira C.C. & Kampala arrived at various times. The venue was full with approximately 400 people & many children! There was traditional African dancing done by Dancers for Christ, various solo musicians, vocalists, the worship team and the “best” children’s choir in Uganda! (Luzira C C’s own) directed by Raymond, also a volunteer.

Pastor Charles Kayiwa, a native-born Ugandan who now pastors in England gave a challenging, but encouraging message directed for Alex. He used the Scripture of Gen. 1:1 about how God creates something out of nothing. He encouraged Alex that when you are building a church out of nothing, you cannot fail because God is the one who forms His church for functioning out of nothing. So, in the beginning God created… “It’s only when you see the invisible that you can believe the impossible”, Pastor Charles said.

Alex’s “father”, Pastor Peter of the Ggaba Community Church reconfirmed that Alex was anointed by God to start His work in forming Luzira CC. and this will transform the community, the surrounding city of Kampala, and eventually the country of Uganda- to the continent of Africa. Pastor Peter also challenged the congregation to give of their time, talent, and treasures.

Several of the pastors & those of us from T.A.M. gathered around Faith & Alex for a time of laying on of hands in prayer as we commissioned them to go and make disciples, empowering them for transformation in Jesus’ name. We were finally dismissed after a long hot day of fun in Uganda. It was a great Christmas time in Kampala, Uganda; celebrating the birth of Jesus together with the body of Christ. Together we sung, danced and jumped for joy.

Several months ago I embarked on a Bible Study that emphasized  developing our hearts desire and passion in life.  I prayed for a renewed passion for Him & a new focus as Paul & I formulate our retired years.  Simultaneously, our church was studying a book called “Radical” by David Platt.  About that time the Robinsons called me and said they had made a decision to go to Uganda for the  Luzira Church launch Christmas day.  Alex renewed his invitation for me to come as well.  That is when the Lord infused me with a renewed passion to leave my family at Christmas & go to Uganda.  I call this a privilege to have this opportunity to hopefully encourage the church and Alex & Faith.  I get to be the giver of 400 made party hats so the children can be in the party spirit as they celebration Jesus’ birthday.
