Ending Unemployment in Uganda

The Fit for Life Program boldly aspires to make a significant impact on the staggering issue of unemployment and economically transform Uganda.

THE FIT FOR LIFE PROGRAM

Transforming the Lives of Ugandans By Empowering Graduates with Skills to Succeed

Employment Challenges and Widespread Poverty in Uganda

Right now in Uganda, there are at least one in four children living in extreme poverty and many more who cannot afford to attend school. About 75 percent of Ugandans are under 30 years of age and their prospects for work are slim or, in some cases, non-existent, according to Judith Icumar, CEO of TAM-Fit for Life Ltd.

For every job opportunity, there are at least 900 applicants! And the unemployment rate for Ugandans — who are in their prime working years of 18-to-30-years of age — is 62 percent, while the unemployment rate in Uganda overall is a staggering 83 percent*!

TAM – Fit for Life Ltd. supports novice entrepreneurs in establishing and building businesses where graduates are pursuing their passions. With the widespread poverty and a scarcity of job openings that face this generation of Ugandans, the impact of TAM – Fit for Life Ltd is life-changing for these young, talented potential business owners, as well as for their communities, the continent and the world!

TAM-Fit For Life Ltd Provides Economic Uplift

That is why Transform African Ministries (TAM) has established TAM- Fit for Life Ltd, a job-training, career guiding ministry that has the power to transform an individual’s life.  The objective of this program is to develop young Ugandans into mature Christian leaders in secular settings where they will be witnesses for God.  In essence, TAM – Fit for Life Ltd. teaches business skills so unemployed youth can then become job creators.

TAM-Fit for Life Ltd partners with Gravitas Impact Coaches and New Heights Church, located in Vancouver, WA, to provide the necessary resources and personnel.

TAM – Fit for Life Ltd is equipping young Ugandans with discipleship and mentoring, leading to gainful employment. Some of these young adults then open their own businesses and, in turn, provide job opportunities for more Ugandans as their businesses grow and prosper.  As a mentor to one for our entrepreneurial-minded students, you would play an integral role in equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, helping them succeed in the workforce!

Will You Be a Mentor?

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands.”

 Psalm 90:17

This is where you come in. TAM -Fit for Life Ltd invites entrepreneurs locally, and from abroad, to mentor and teach these young adults. As you impart your knowledge and expertise to these Ugandans, you are empowering them with the tools for success in their chosen professions.

TAM – Fit for Life Ltd hosts business leaders and entrepreneurs like yourself to work closely with our college-aged and graduate students. The goal is to pair experienced entrepreneurs with novice entrepreneurs so Ugandans can benefit from your discipleship and mentoring — all in an atmosphere of caring Christian love.

As a result of your mentoring and discipleship, you’ll equip and empower a young adult with the tools to find work while playing a part in breaking the chains of poverty that is so rampant in Uganda. At TAM, our mission is to disciple and empower people for transformation in the name of Jesus. The TAM -Fit for Life Ltd. fulfills this purpose from an economic standpoint — with your gifts of time, talent, and treasure — so our young people in this East African nation are blessed with the means to support themselves and also create employment for one, two or even three more.

What Is Mentorship

What you as an entrepreneur offer a young Ugandan is invaluable when it comes to making their career aspirations and goals come true.  As an experienced and trusted advisor who guides and coaches your young mentee, you can significantly shape his or her future when it comes to seizing professional opportunities and making the most of their God-given talents!

Your business savvy and professional expertise, combined with our elite international business training, equips Ugandans with the vital tools they will need to rise above dire circumstances and transform themselves and future generations.

How You Can Become a Mentor

If you are passionate and motivated to profoundly change a Ugandan’s life, then we want to talk with you! All we need from you is a commitment to come alongside your mentee for a period of three years.  You would provide ongoing support. What’s more, we invite you to visit Uganda and personally visit your mentee to offer him or her prayer, encouragement, coaching, and, if possible, financial support.

How We Select Our Cohorts

Every year in September, we launch a recruitment drive that takes place throughout Uganda to find entrepreneurial-minded college and university students and recent graduates.  These young Ugandans must possess a strong academic record, as well as have the capability and drive to complete our rigorous international business training program. After being accepted, these chosen Ugandans go through a program that lasts for nine months; January to September of the following year.  Students receive one-on-one support so they can create profitable, scalable, and fundable business plans.

At the conclusion of their intense training the students enter a competition where they present and pitch their business plans to Gravitas Coaches and Angel investors.  Since this takes place in September, this would be the ideal time for you to visit as a coach and as a seed capital investor!

We Need You!

“Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.”

Eric Parsloe, The Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring.

Since TAM Fit for Life Ltd started in 2016, we have graduated 78 students of the Business Training program. We have secured funding for 12 start-up businesses which include; a bakery, a restaurant, a clinic, a branding and advertising agency, a sound provision business, outside catering, a dog breeding business, a boutique, sandal making business, a poultry unit,  among others. We currently have 20 businesses ready and waiting for funding!

TAM – Fit for Life Ltd is a 100-percent contribution funded program.  We are still in the process of raising money for a Career Center where our students can have access to computers and receive dedicated time with you, their mentor, as they learn job and entrepreneur preparedness skills.

We have 20 Ugandan entrepreneurs, in various stages of business development, who have graduated from the program, who have passed through our panel and who are awaiting funding to make their professional dream a reality.

Transformation in Jesus Name

Spiritual Transformation

Transformation begins, first, in the hearts of people. Therefore, a change in society or a community requires a God-inspired heart change. Through our ministries we seek to draw community members to the Church so they can witness the love of Christ firsthand.

Economic Transformation

Our leadership and entrepreneurship program brings together novice and experienced entrepreneurs and guides them through a process of discipleship and mentoring. The end goal is that they will be witnesses for God and job creators within their area of passion or training.

Social Transformation

We recognize we are surrounded by immense poverty and need. It is our goal to leverage the skills, resources and access of our target group, the middle and upper classes of Luzira, to collaboratively identify and provide practical answers to our community’s felt needs.

A Career Center

Fundraising for a Business Center for Fit for Life

Help us fund a facility where Fit for Life activities can take place. The facility would include space for workshops, training, a computer lab, a meeting place for mentors and mentees. This is of utmost importance because today we are currently using the church auditorium and children’s church for all our Fit for Life activities. Monthly rent will cost UGX 1,000,000 (about $300 USD) while buying a house for Fit for Life would cost $200,000 USD.

If you are interested in generously contributing to the purchase of the career center, we invite you to start a conversation with Judith Icumar, our Fit for Life CEO

YOU MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

How You Can Be Part of the Transformation

God has given us a vision that is much bigger than what we can do on our own and we need your help!

Growing and Expanding into a Ministry Center

Our vision is to create a Ministry Center for the city, purchasing the land adjacent to The City Church Luzira, to provide sufficient space to meet the growing spiritual, social and economic needs of the surrounding community. These needs include a larger worship and teaching center; expanding the school to include all primary grades; a career center with meeting rooms and computers; and living space for additional young girls to experience safety and God’s love, by significantly expanding the capacity of Hope House. We already have identified, analyzed and strategized which buildings, properties, and land owners are best to fulfill our vision. With a God-sized vision of raising $1,000,000 USD we will be able to make the Ministry Center a reality!
